Memorial Day 2015

N.J. Memorial Day Weekend May 24, 2014: Today we are beginning our second annual Memorial Day feature story and we will be adding more information each day as we find more events from Cape May Point to Closter.

Today we are updating our feature on Memorial Day Weekend in New Jersey.

Memorial Day is being celebrated on Monday, May 25, 2015, and we are listing all types of events starting on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, May 22, 23, 24, and 25, 2015. We began with a few of our favorites and we’ve added more as we found them. We will be making new listings through Sunday night, May 24, 2015. We’re still looking for unusual and charming small and big town events to list from Andover to Atlantic City and beyond.

Be sure and see our NJ Memorial Day Weekend Events Map, and the NJ Memorial Day Calendar, and let us know if we missed any big events near you or list your event here.

Memorial Day was originally intended to honor those that died in the Civil War but unfortunately, that was not the last war that Americans lost their lives. After World War I, the holiday’s purpose was expanded to include all Americans lost to war. Memorial Day is a day for remembering “those who gave their last full measure of devotion” and to recognize every veteran who has fought and those that are still fighting around the world.

The National Moment of Remembrance is a tradition that I just learned about. Everyone is asked to keep silent for a moment at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, May 25, 2015, for the “National Moment of Remembrance”. This is done every Memorial Day and it was initiated by No Greater Love Organization in 1997 and formally established by the United States Congress in the year 2000.
