World Turtle Day!

May 23 – This day is celebrated to bring attention to turtles and increase knowledge about how you can help protect them. Because of marine debris and over harvesting of adults and eggs, the loggerhead turtles were listed as endangered by the state of New Jersey.
The Wetlands Institute in Stone Harbor, NJ is an educational and research facility focused on salt marsh and coastal ecosystem preservation. This is a great place to learn about sea turtles and other animals in the coastal ecosystem. Please call ahead to verify hours 609-368-1211.
The Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey is working to restore and enhance the bog turtle habitat. Continued development and habitat degradation has destroyed most of the bog turtles’ habitat to the point where they were a threatened species in 1997. CWF is working to increase awareness of bog turtles while improving a habitat by reaching out to landowners and discussing habitat restoration. 609-984-6012.
